Thank you for your support!

This downloadable Social Communication & Situational Problem-Solving PDF includes 25 detailed, real-life scenarios designed to encourage individuals to look beyond the obvious answer and think critically about everyday interpersonal situations. Rather than relying on simple multiple-choice questions, each scenario provides enough context to create meaningful discussion about what happened, how each person may feel, why different people may interpret the same situation differently, and how the problem could be resolved effectively.

Each scenario guides the individual through a consistent problem-solving framework targeting the ability to identify the primary problem, recognize emotions, understand another person's perspective, generate multiple possible solutions, predict consequences, select an appropriate response, and explain the reasoning behind that decision. An additional perspective-taking question encourages individuals to consider how their own words, tone, actions, or nonverbal communication might be interpreted by someone else—even when that interpretation differs from their original intention.

These activities can be incorporated into speech therapy, cognitive-linguistic therapy, social skills training, executive functioning intervention, counseling, rehabilitation, special education, home practice, or caregiver-supported activities. The open-ended format allows the clinician, educator, caregiver, or individual to adjust the complexity of the discussion based on communication and cognitive abilities.

  • Skills targeted include: social communication and pragmatic language, situational problem-solving, emotional identification and regulation, perspective-taking and Theory of Mind, inferencing, cognitive flexibility, consequential reasoning, self-awareness and self-monitoring, conflict resolution, conversational reasoning, decision-making, executive functioning, and functional communication.

  • The scenarios focus on realistic everyday situations rather than abstract worksheet exercises, helping support carryover of skills into conversations, relationships, family interactions, work or community environments, and other functional settings.

What's Included: 25 detailed real-life scenarios, seven guided discussion questions for each scenario, structured opportunities to generate and compare two possible solutions, written response areas, and a printable PDF format suitable for individual therapy, guided discussion, or home practice.
